Area Attractions

Located in the Piedmont region of south central Virginia, Martinsville and Henry County are approximately one hour south of Roanoke and one hour north of the Greensboro/Winston- Salem/High Point triad area. One of the best community colleges in Virginia, Patrick Henry, is located here as well as New College Institute, our state’s newest establishment of higher learning. There are many cultural activities available through Piedmont Arts and the Historic Rives Theatre, an abundance of live music from classical to bluegrass.  The Virginia Museum of Natural History is also based here.

Recreational activities abound in the area.  There are hiking and walking trails in town and at the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains.  Other activities include trout fishing in the Smith River, golfing at several courses and a wide range of sports and fitness facilities are available.
